DAISY

Beautiful 2 year old brindle-colored Daisy went to prison on May 2nd.

Daisy's story is sad and a story that is all too familiar.  Some uncaring, thoughtless person decided Daisy was no longer useful and dropped her off to fend for herself.  She was found by an SPCA volunteer in the middle of the road, alone and frightened. It was evident that she had recently had puppies. She was taken to the SPCA Shelter and then sent off to prison.

Once in the prison program,  Daisy quickly learned all of her commands and can already do a few tricks.  Prison life with the inmate trainers really suits Daisy.  One reason is that she loves the one on one attention from the trainers and enjoys the company of her program mates Rocket and Bailey.

Daisy will graduate on June 25th and be ready for adoption.  She is spayed, microchipped, current on all medical treatment, vaccinated, leash trained, "potty trained, crate trained and if coached will give you a "high five".

BAILEY

Bailey is a 7 month old chocolate lab/ retriever mix.

When the volunteers drove into the driveway of the SPCA Shelter for work, there was a box sitting at the entrance.  At first the volunteers thought it was trash, passed it, and then backed up to take a look.  Inside they saw these beautiful brown lab eyes looking out of the top and a happy tail wagging because someone came to take care of him. Attached was long note asking that someone take care of this very young guy.

SPCA volunteers took him into the shelter, squared him away and off to prison he went on May 2.  Bailey is full of wags, kisses and sheer joy at being alive.  He is quickly learning skills to become a well-behaved family member and will graduate and be ready for adoption on June 25th. Bailey gets along well with his program mates, Daisy and Rocket.

He is microchipped, neutered, current on all medical treatment and vaccinations, crate trained, potty trained and leash trained.

ROCKET

Rocket is a sweet boy, a good natured, intelligent one year old terrier mix.    SPCA was called about a dog that had been hanging around for days and needed some help.  Rocket entered the SPCA Adoption and Foster Program, was taken off to prison and will graduate and be ready to go to his permanent, loving home on June 25th as a well behaved family member. He is good with other dogs and kids.

Rumor has it  Rocket is already crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, works the agility course and will do a few tricks for you.  He is microchipped, neutered, current on all medical treatment and vaccinations, crate trained, potty trained and leash trained.  Rocket wants to be your next best friend.

LUCY

Lucy (Alias Miss Kitty) was incarcerated March 18, 2008 at the Guilford Correctional Center and will remain there until April 30th at which time she will graduate and be ready to be released to her new loving family.

Lucy is a very petite, beautiful, affectionate female Bichon who has been forced to live her short 5 years in a cage. Beautiful little Lucy was used as a breeder to have liter after liter of puppies.  Yes, Lucy lived in a caged was not taken out even to potty.  Once she reached the age that she was not desirable for breeding, she was discarded.

But Lucy’s life has changed since she arrived at the prison. She is the center of attention, taken for long walks, loved and respected by her inmate/trainers who are teaching her to be loved and give love, walk on a leash, go on walks on the prison grounds to potty and also is learning  few tricks that will delight you.  Lucy’s continuous breeding days are over.  She has been spayed, medical tx and vaccinations current, micro chipped and is ready to become someone’s next best friend, lap dog and companion.

LILY

Lily looks at you with those soulful hound eyes and you know that there is a sad story behind the look, but Lily can’t tell you.  Some thoughtless, irresponsible person took Lily to the outskirts of town, abandoned her in a golf course community and left her alone to fend for herself.  Some kind people took Lily in, cared for her and brought her to the SPCA Adoption and Foster Program.  So Lily was very quickly whisked off to prison to participate in A New Leash on Life to prepare Lily for adoption and her new life,  her loving family and permanent home.

Lily is a young, female, medium height (coon hound)  mix, approx 45 lbs. Lily has that sweet hound disposition and loves everyone she meets.  Lily is good with other animals and is now learning her basic obedience skills  with her inmate trainers.  Lily is spayed, micro chipped, current on all medical tx and vaccinations and ready to become your next best friend.

EARL

Earl is a gentle, sweet natured approx. 5 year old lab/hound mix. He weighs approximately 50 lbs. and is medium height.

Earl had a home and loving young family for 4 years and the growing family made a decision they could not keep him.  Earl’s family brought him to the SPCA Shelter to enter our Foster and Adoption program.   Of course this sweet boy was immediately sent to prison to join A New Leash on Life program.

Earl loves lots of petting and wants to be the center of attention.  Earl has a sweet disposition and is a very gentle dog.  He is current on all medical treatment and vaccinations, micro chipped, neutered and ready to become your next best friend and companion.

CHAMP

A friend got out of his warm car on a cold night, pulled his coat collar around his neck and went into a curb market downtown.  As he was returning to his car, he saw several people at a dumpster behind the building.  He went over to see if he could help and to his surprise there was a cold, scared whining, shaking 7 month old bundle of fur, discarded, thrown into a dumpster as someone would a piece of trash.  This juvenile beagle/terrier/boxer mix gave lots of wiggles and kisses as my friend lifted him out of the dumpster, wrapped him in his coat and took him home as his guest for several days until he could get him into the SPCA Foster and Adoption Program.  Off to prison Champ went. His inmate/trainer reports Champ is extremely intelligent.  After just a few short weeks in the prison program he is walking on leash, potty trained and crate trained.

Champ will be 50 to 60 lbs full grown.  He will be ready for adoption and to go to his permanent home on March 6th and become you next best friend.

SIDNEY

Sidney is an 18 month old, intelligent, beautiful shepherd mix.  She is a happy girl who loves everyone she meets.  She doesn’t know why she wound up at SPCA adoption and Foster Program and neither do we.  Despite her good behavior and gentle nature, Sidney found herself whisked off to prison. Her inmate/trainers report that Sidney is intelligent, enjoys and gets along with the other prison dogs and  learns her commands immediately.  She is crate trained, potty trained and leash trained and often slips her trainer in a “high five”.

MAYA

Maya had a loving family for 5 years and then her life changed. She had to leave her home and family because they didn't have time to spend with her anymore. Maya found herself at the SPCA in the care of loving staff and volunteers. Maya is 5 year old Aussie mix who is great with children of all ages and is fine with other animals. She is a fun walking partner and loves car rides. Maya's happy, loving personality makes everyone around her happy. She is patiently waiting for a loving family and permanent home.

EDDIE

It is pretty hard on a 12 month old little boy to find himself abandoned in the country equipped with nothing but a yellow hunting collar. Instead of refined skills for survival Eddie had no idea of how take care of himself especially at such a young age.  Eddie found his way to SPCA and will not have to worry about survival again.

He is a sweet, friendly boy who wants to be with people. Eddie gets along well with other animals. We even found him with the SPCA cats sleeping on top of him.  Eddie is a purebred yellow lab just waiting to be an excellent companion to some lucky family.

SONNY

Sonny is a 9 month old black lab mix who loves everyone he meets.
He would love for you to know his story but he can't tell you. Neither can the SPCA. Someone just brought him to the SPCA Center and dropped him off during the night. As sad as this is, it has not changed the fact that Sonny is a happy boy who loves everyone he meets..

He is good with other animals and children. Sonny is waiting for a permanent loving family he can trust who will never abandon him.

Daphne

When you meet sweet natured, happy, intelligent Daphne, you would never suspect she had been abused.  Daphne made it to the SPCA and A New Leash on Life and she will never have to worry again. Sadly, Daphne and others like her can't tell you their very sad stories about pain, hunger or neglect.

Daphne is a 10 month old terrier mix who deserves a permanent home with a loving family who will treat her with the love, care and respect such a good girl deserves.

In A New Leash on Life, Daphne is enjoying playing with Hugo and Charlie who are also in the prison program.  Rumor has it she also gets along with cats.

Daphne is currently at the prison refining her skills in basic obedience (crate training, potty, training and leash training) waiting to become your next best friend and a good companion to the family.

Hugo

Young, oh-so-sweet, clumsy, puppy goofy Hugo should have been in a nice fenced yard playing with other dogs and children.  Instead some unthinking person dropped Hugo in the middle of a very busy intersection to fend for himself.  How could such a young, inexperienced, carefree boy know how to make the right decisions in the confusion of horns blowing, congestion, loud noise and fast moving cars when all he wanted to do was frolic and play.

Hugo is a 7 month old dane mix who weighs 60lbs.  He is very gentle, loves children and other animals.  Since his rescue by the SPCA he spends most of his waking hours playing non stop with his new friend in the program, Charlie.

Hugo is waiting for his permanent, loving home and family.

Charlie

Charlie is handsome, smart, has lots of energy and has a very outgoing personality.  It is hard to believe that such a charming young guy was abandoned to fend for himself.  Thank goodness he was found by a good Samaritan and wound up with the SPCA.

Charlie loves car rides, long walks, kids and other dogs.

Charlie is a healthy 11 month old, yellow lab/shepherd mix.

Since Charlie's rescue by the SPCA, he spends his day playing with his new friend in the program, Hugo, and training in preparation for his new loving family and a permanent home where he will never have to fend for himself alone and frightened.

Jake

Jake's soulful deep brown eyes tell a very sad story.  Jake lost his family to a move that he couldn't be a part of.  Even though Jake is a big old gentle giant who is great with everyone and other pets, he just couldn't go along.  Jake is an 8 year old Newfie that is about 120 lbs.  He has a great sweet disposition, is very intelligent, is quiet, easy going and loves to be petted.  Jake's soulful deep brown eyes will tell a happy story when he meets his new family who will love him and let him be a part of their family for the rest of his life.

Gina

You can usually find Gina in the toy chest digging out toys (one of her favorite games).  Gina is a beautiful 6 month old black and white smooth-coated Border Collie mix.  She weighs approx. 40 lbs.  Someone had dropped this sweet young girl out in the country to fend for herself. A kind samaritan got her to the SPCA.  She has a sweet, gentle, loving, submissive disposition.  She loves belly rubs, car rides, kids, cats, other dogs and squeak toys. One of her favorite things is her play time with Lass.

Lass

Lass had to be her name.  This beautiful, gentle 12 month old female  looks like a Bernese Mountain dog and is full grown at about 45 lbs. In spite of her dilemma of being left along at 12 months old to fend for herself, she has not lost her sweet disposition.  Lass loves children and is very grateful for the children who found her at the gas station and helped her get to the SPCA for help.  Lass loves her toys and loves to play with the other dogs.

Booker

Booker is handsome, very intelligent, agile  male Irish Wolfhound who is approximately 3 years.  Booker is a very gentle, loving soul who seems to like everyone he meets as well as children and other dogs.  He is full grown at about 65 lbs.  Booker should not have his intelligent curiosity and sweet nature because when he was found he was wandering the streets with a collar neglectfully and painfully embedded in his neck which had to be surgically removed.  A microchip was present but it was registered to an out of state shelter that no longer existence and could not be traced.  Booker is looking for a forever family and home which he really deserves.  He is microchipped properly, vaccinated, med tx. up to date leash trained, crate trained potty trained.

Carly

Carly, our sweet, attentive, intelligent female shepherd mix, is full grown at only 38 lbs. Carly is the petite sized shepherd mix that you will enjoy sharing your home with.  Carly's nature is very gentle and low key.  She is very attentive, very smart and focuses on those people caring for her.  She has a very dedicated, loyal disposition.  Carly likes children and gets along well with other dogs.  She is spayed, crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, microchipped, current on shots and heartworm preventative.  Carly is waiting now for the right family and home so that she can give the companionship, loyalty and love that only a dog like Carly can give.

Lillian

Lillian is our glamour girl.  She is a  9 month old beautiful, female, cream and white beagle and Jack Russel mix.  Lillian is full grown at approx. 35 lbs.  She has a sweet, loving disposition and enjoys everyone she meets.  Lillian had an early start with her own family.  I am sure Lillian was devastated when her family tied her to a tree and she watched them drive off without her and anyway to take care of herself.  A good Samaritan found Lillian and put her in the loving care of the SPCA.  Even though Lillian wound up in prison, please don't feel sorry for her.  She is having the time of her life with all that attention from the inmate/trainers and prison personnel.  Spayed, crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, microchipped, current on shots and heartworm preventative, Lillian is now waiting (not tethered to a tree) to go to her new family and forever home.
