As I was growing up, the dogs in our family were like my siblings. My mother showed and raised dogs. I actually learned to walk holding onto a standard poodle! While raising 2 boys and working full time in a demanding career, I made time to volunteer for the benefit of rescue dogs. It didn’t take long to realize that doing what you have a passion for is much more rewarding, so I found Bark Busters. Bark Busters’ mission is to help save dogs from being abandonment and euthanasia due to behavioral issues. I have been part of Bark Busters since November 1, 2004 and have trained over 250 dogs. The best part of my job is meeting wonderful people that love their dogs and want to learn how to make their relationship stronger. The New Leash on Life program is an extension of my desire to help make dogs happy members of loving families. The inmate/trainers are not only learning how to communicate and train dogs, but they are receiving unconditional love and devotion from these “unwanted” dogs. Both the dogs and the trainers feel a kinship that helps both realize that they have much to give to each other and the community. Being part of this program is fulfilling and exciting. There are no words to describe the feeling as I watch the dogs and the trainers bond and trust each other. I wouldn’t trade this job for anything!
